Welcome and Thank You for Your Interest in Woodspirations.
Woodspirations started out as a hobby on the side and quickly became a passion. Making decoration and furniture yourself does not only bring you joy and a sense of accomplishment, but the finished products are also much cheaper and better in quality than generic store bought items. So there really was no reason for me to quit doing what I started to become very passionate about.
As for my background, I don’t have one; at least not when it comes to woodworking. I grew up in Germany – and if there is one thing that you need to know about Germans, it is that they don’t like to do any handiwork themselves. The only thing they very much like to do is washing their cars : ) Anyway, growing up in this kind of environment set me up for a good, old culture shock when I first moved to Michigan. People here (at least in the country) fix or build everything themselves. That left quite an impression on me.
So, I slowly moved from watching other people to helping them out, and then all the way to finishing our own basement. And yes, our house is still standing! And in addition, we acquired a nice collection of tools over time that is perfectly suitable for woodworking – which became evident very quickly, because we needed shelves and tables and chairs and sideboards and a TV stand for the basement.
And this is how one thing led to the other and Woodspirations came into being.
